No More Playing Games, President Donald Trump Deploys The National Guard To Deal With Ornery Protesters Who Are Threatening To Take Lincoln Statue Down

Opinion| Carmine Sabia| President Donald Trump is not playing anymore games when it comes to the relentless protesters from Antifa.

The president is not going to allow them to tear down the Emancipation Statue that was paid for by freed slaves to honor former President Abraham Lincoln.

The protesters, who are also from Black Lives Matter, are furious that the statue looks like the slaves are being subservient to Lincoln and have threatened to tear it down.

And considering the fact that they have torn down statues nationwide it is a fair assumption that they could have gotten to this one too.

But the president is being proactive and has mobilized the National guard to protect the statue from the thugs, The Daily Mail reported.

Critics said the statue, originally constructed in 1876 to celebrate liberation, looks more like black subservience and white supremacy in 2020.

Frederick Douglass, the famous abolitionist who escaped slavery, was known to have disliked the image of a black man kneeling at the feet of his white emancipator.

The Emancipation Memorial, also known as the Emancipation Group and the Freedman’s Memorial, was erected in Washington’s Lincoln Park in 1876.

A copy of the Washington statue was also installed in Boston, home to the statue’s white creator Thomas Ball, in 1879.

The Boston figure is also on the radar of campaigners and a petition is being circulated to have the memorial removed.

President Trump on Thursday told Fox News host Sean Hannity that he understood the complaints from those who want the statue removed.

He said he could see what they were saying about the imagery but, also, he said he “can also see beauty” in the statue.

“You know, we can take things down, too,” he said. “I can understand certain things being taken down. But they ought to go through a process, legally.

“And then we take it down, in some cases put ’em in museums or wherever they may go.,” the president said of the statue, and other statues.

A speaker who was at the rally to have the statue removed said that President Lincoln did not free the slaves because it was the proper thing to do but for his own gain.

“He [Lincoln] freed the slaves for political advancement,” the speaker said. “Not because he cared, not because he wanted to.

“And the thing is that when we freed ourselves, we had seven years of progress, the best seven years for black people in the entire American history,” the speaker said.
