Police Release Graphic Video of Man Shot at Headquarters After He Broke Out of Handcuffs

The San Diego Police Department released a very graphic video of a man who broke out of his handcuffs and found an officer’s back up gun.

The video shows the tense minutes between the time the suspect got the gun and when he finally got out of the vehicle and tried to fight it out.

A hotel in downtown called the police and told them they had a man threaten someone with a knife.

Hotel staff pepper-sprayed him and held him down until police arrived.

He was taken into custody without incident.

The suspect has been identified as Keith Bergman.

Police explained:

“The man was evaluated for being under the influence and placed under arrest. A search of his pockets revealed methamphetamine and five credit cards that did not belong to him. He was taken to police headquarters for processing.”

Berman was able to get out of his cuffs and break through the Plexiglas and he found a bag belonging to one of the officers and he looked inside and found the officer’s back up gun. Finally he came out of the car and after getting hit was subdued by a canine officer.

He then reportedly fires at least one round from the back of the patrol car and officers respond in kind.

“After several minutes, the man reaches through the broken glass and opens the rear door,” police explained. “He exits with the backpack and the handgun tucked in his waist. He tries and fails to open the rear hatch.”

Bergman then reportedly attempts to open one of the front doors, but an officer fires three rounds and prevents him from doing so.

A K-9 officer was then deployed, and the suspect was once again taken into custody without further incident. He was transported to a local medical facility for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
